Hundreds are expected at the Murugan Temple  of North America, Lanham, Maryland, on Sunday, July 3rd from 3 p.m. to 9 p.m.

This day will celebrate the festival known as the  FESTIVAL OF UNIVERSAL BROTHERHOOD,  SRI JAGANNATHA RATHA JATRA  (Chariot Festival), a yearly Hindu spiritual procession, that highlights the notion of global  harmony and unity.

THE RATHA JATRA, began  thousands of years ago, as a yearly celebration in Puri, the temple town in the State of Orissa on the east coast of India. Millions congregate to see the  huge, colorfully-decorated chariots in a procession honoring the Hindu Lord Jagannatha, Brother Balaram and Sister Devi Subhadra, said Mr. Nayak. 

Local Band Performs Live for Community

 Join community members of all ages for a musical performance at the Mall at Prince George's  food court Thursday, June 23rd.

Local artist, Roosevelt Smith Trio will perform live for shoppers and local residents from 1 p.m-2 p.m.

Roosevelt Smith is a seasoned entertainer, pianist, and song writer who has traveled throughout the U.S. and Great Britain.

This is the second act in a series of four summer concerts presented by the Prince George’s Arts Council. Upcoming concerts on June 30 and July 7 feature Marcus Mitchell Trio and Neo-Jazz Movement.

 Join community members of all ages for a musical performance at the Mall at Prince George's  food court Thursday, June 23rd.

Local band, Roosevelt Smith Trio will perform live for shoppers and local residents from 1 p.m-2 p.m.

Roosevelt Smith is a seasoned entertainer, pianist, and song writer who has traveled throughout the U.S. and Great Britain.

Beginning at Sunset next to the marina they will be showing free outdoor movies on a big screen. Lawn chairs or blankets are recommended. No coolers with food or alcoholic beverages will be permitted.

Sundays are FAMILY Movies.  Fridays are DATE NIGHT Movies.

MOVIES ON THE POTOMAC starts Friday, June 10th!

 Beginning at Sunset next to the marina they will be showing free outdoor movies on a big screen. Lawn chairs or blankets are recommended. No coolers with food or alcoholic beverages will be permitted.

 

Tonight's movie is Burlesque: Christina Aguilera makes her dramatic feature debut as a small-town singer who takes her shot at stardom performing at a neo-burlesque nightclub in Los Angeles. Cher, Stanley Tucci, Kristen Bell, and Julianne Hough are also in the flick.

Sundays are family movies.  Fridays are date night movies.

Members of Congress, local athletes, philanthropists and the fashion industry are assembling for DC’s Modus Union Spring 2011 – a unique event supporting prevention and early detection of cancer in women.

Modus Union Spring 2011 features a full runway show by acclaimed fashion designer Marc Bouwer (www.MarcBouwer.com), a 3-D film presentation previewing Bouwer’s Fall 2011 line, and an art installation and silent auction featuring some of the most talented visual artists in DC. The proceeds from this one-of-a-kind gathering will benefit Cancer Schmancer (www.CancerSchmancer.org), an organization founded by actress Fran Drescher to prevent cancer in women through education and early detection.

DC Film Alliance: a local filmmaker's best resource

The DC Film Alliance is quite possibly the single best organization for filmmakers and cinephiles in the Nation's Capital. Founded by Jon Gann, who is also the man behind the highly successful DC Shorts Film Festival, the DC Film Alliance offers seminars on filmmaking through the DC Film Salon. Information on topics such as screenwriting, film promotion, and fundraising is presented by knowledgeable people in the field. The laid back Film Salons also offer an opportunity to meet other film enthusiasts and develop connections to potential collaborators.
